Glass connectors are available in five styles: 4-way, 2-way, 3-way, hinge and hasp. In most cases, you will need to use each style of connector to build your glass unit.

If you are designing your own display fixture using glass panels, you will use connectors to hold each panel in place. By adding a shelf rest at the front and back of each bracket, glass is preserved by the additional support of a wider contact area that includes two cushions, helping protect the glass against scratches, breakage and prevents the shelf from moving side to side. Over time, this same scenario will cause scratches and mar the glass. As merchandise and product are added to a shelf sitting directly on metal brackets, the weight adds stress and can run the risk of developing a fracture or even worse, break at this point of contact. At first glance shelf rests may look insignificant and it can be hard to see what contribution they make, but their role is very important when it comes to glass shelves. Once your slotted or non-slotted shelf brackets are in place, shelf rests will need to be added. Wall standards are designed with either a 0.5" slot or 1" slot, so make sure you know which pattern your wall standard uses before ordering commercial shelf brackets. Pegboard brackets use wires that slide through peg holes and wall standards use a hook/tab design that inserts into the slots along the standard. Gridwall shelf brackets use a C-shaped back plate and hangs over the top of grid wire. If you are using a shelf with gridwall, pegboard or wall standards, the only difference is the how the bracket will attach. This same principle applies regardless of whether you are using brackets with slatwall, gridwall or wall standards.

If you your shelf is 48- x 14-inches deep, use a 14-inch bracket. Match the length of the bracket with the depth of your shelf for instance if you are adding a 24- x 8-inch shelf, use an 8-inch bracket. If you plan to use shelves with slatwall, regardless of whether it is on the wall or a freestanding fixture, the bracket plate is designed specifically to fit slatwall grooves. Glass shelf brackets are available in several lengths and styles. Will the shelf be used with a freestanding fixture such as a H-unit or gondola or will it be incorporated along a wall? Will you be creating your own unique design using glass panels? Depending how you have answered these questions will determine which hardware is the best option for you. Hardware for glass shelves can vary depending on where and how you plan to use the shelf.
